Blast from the Past!
The house's former owner gave us photographs of it when she first arrived. Prior to her, no one had improved the house for 50 years! As we make progress, we will share blasts from the past. We have cleaned and trimmed the yard; we thought our task was daunting until we saw this shot of the shed from five years ago! The next photo shows her progress; the third shows our attempts to trim. We plan to clean out the shed (housing more "treasures"), paint it, and landscape later in the year.
Steve and Tammy apologize for the dark, grainy photo, which is our only shot. The house had wall hung sinks in the bedrooms, quite fashionable in the Edwardian Era. The bedroom upstairs holds evidence of the pipes in the hardwood floor: this spot of plywood in what will be our homeschool room covers some pipes. The other two bedrooms upstairs have pipes in the floor. Tammy's brother and co-worker have almost finished painting the homeschool room's ceilings, molding, baseboards, and windows in earth tones and have installed new outlet covers, switchplates, and cable connection plates. The floors, painted ugly brown, are in sad shape, and we wait for a quote to restore them.

I moved into my house about eight years ago, this also being about 90 years or so. It's so crooked it's hanging like a christmastree from the chimney.
And in the garden we've found axes and shopping cart-wheels dug under ground. We'll never know why.
Anyway, your blog was a good read. Lovely, thank you.
Gogo old houses! :D Good luck!

Kudos to your family for doing their own home projects. I could never do it myself. I always end up hiring people to do it. I have a great respect for those who can fix their own place up. In fact I envy them! Wish my family was more handy!

A quick clarification! Steve and Tammy are about as handy as Tim Allen's character from "Home Improvement"! Tammy's brother and co-worker have years of experience in house construction and renovation. We are gladly compensating the true experts for their efforts and are only doing the grunt work any amateur with a strong back and bubba kegs could manage.
